Eyelash Extensions

see the difference? Pardon the hair. Just woke up.

see the difference? Pardon the hair. Just woke up.

People say that the eyes are the window to the soul. Then, I'm guessing the eyelashes are the drapery- a pretty set of drapery always beautifies the view it's framing, so enter eyelash extensions. The beauty service once reserved for special occasions like wedding days has crept into everyday life. More and more New Yorkers are ditching mascara in favor of natural-looking false lashes that last for weeks. I am a one of those converts.

I love it so much. I don't feel like I have to wear so much makeup anymore. I'm not a fan of mascara, I've never found a mascara that won't make me look like a raccoon by the end of the day. If you have recommendations, please comment below (seriously).

I still have yet to look for mascara that wont run; hence eyelash extensions will make me skip that mascara step for me. My friends told me that I look different with it and without it.  My eyes really pop. I don't need to use eyeliner anymore.

I had mine in Wink Brow Bar. It was a pretty relaxing experience. Everyone's from Nepal, and they have the most relaxing accents. They also have that Filipino hospitality, which I found very comforting.

The application of the lashes took about an hour. So bring your I-phone and earphones and listen to meditative music. You cant move around or make weird expressions. Try to keep your face as still as possible.

I was exhausted from the events I had to attend to over the last week so I was knocked out. The lady just woke me up when it was done, and also threaded my uneven eyebrows for free.

The manager explained to procedure to me when I came back for my second application.

There are different kinds of lashes. She told me that I can select from various lengths (9mm-16mm), curves (J and C) and styles (lashes of the outer edges may be longer than the rest, the middle lashes may be longer than the rest; or the lash extensions may have even lengths throughout the lash line. Now, in terms of material, you have a lot to choose from: Faux Mink, Faux Fox, Silk, Real Mink, and last but not least, Real Human Hair. The differences between these looks are negligible so opt for the Faux Mink since it's the most affordable.

They told me to keep my lashes away from water for 24 hours (no spinning classes, swimming or washing your face for a day). Unfortunately, my dog, Billie, died that day. So, I was expecting it would fall out soon. Surprisingly, my eyelash extensions lasted for a VERY long time. I had mine done on April, and it lasted till Mid-august.

But prepare for discomfort the first 3 days. It felt like something was blocking my vision, but you'll get used to it. I had a small blockage on one of my oil glands on the lash lines.

Initially, I thought it was a small stye, but its not. So please don't fret if it occurs.

My dermatologist aunt suggested that I wash my lids with baby shampoo, and the blockage disappeared.

I spoke to my friends who've had lash extensions from other places, not Wink Brow Bar, about what they've experienced. One friend had an actual stye. Another who religiously have had extensions noticed that eyelashes were becoming parse, she suggested to let give yourself time to grow before you have another round of extensions.

To make her lashes thick again, she used Diorshow Maximizer 3D Triple volume plumping lash primer , but she also likes Tarte Multiplyeye Serum . Many of my friends, said that Tarte had faster results.

I guess eyelash extensions should be done when there are a series of events you have to attend or perhaps your wedding day. I've noticed that I've been shedding eyelashes in a faster rate. Like everything else in life, it's not good to have too much of something. As much as love my new lashes, I have to give my lashes some needed break to grow.
