This New York Fashion Week has been wild. The weather was just unforgiving; then some labels have announced that their collections will be available in the stores as soon as it is shown, or they will have season-less collections; and the bloggers or street peacocks have doubled in numbers (I'm proud to say that I wasn't part of the peacock-ing because it was too cold to look cute).
One thing I've observed though, there were patterns again. I'm guessing that the designers were following the same trend forecasting companies like WGSN. But for stylistas without WGSN accounts, and who want to know what will be the possible "it" trends this spring, here are the labels or trends that you should have.
1) Oversized sleeves
We've been seeing this trend on a few Instagram rockstars, and labels have heeded to this very chic and unique trend. I suggest that you layer these pieces for extra oomph.
2) Floral Appliqué
" Flowers for Spring... Shocking" said Miranda Priestley in Tfe Devil Wears Prada. But as commonplace as it is in spring, flowers are back- again. Designers have been sewing blooms into their pieces as well. The more 3D it is, the better.
3) Halters and something of its ilk.
The sign that the nineties trend is here to stay for another season. Halter silhouettes was seen on the New York runways. Now time to work those shoulders out.
4) Ornate Pants
The last time ornate pants were trendy was when I was back in high school. Our senior grad party were filled with sequined mermaid pants. Thankfully, I didn't see any of those on the runways.
5) Cleverly placed cutouts
This is clever fashion seduction. Cleverly placed skin exposure without looking lewd. This is artful seduction
6) See thru Tops
Is this a free the nipple phenomena? I'm not there yet, but this is for the stylishly bold, or people who like organza, organdy, chiffon and lace. For the more conservative types, you can just opt for only see thru sleeves.
Time to bare those shoulders for spring.
